"Why do you want to go to the village? Are you visiting someone?" Katsuko kept walking straight. "I live in the village." He saw a clearing up ahead and lots of houses. "Well, here we are."

"Ummm," Mirany said, quickly thinking of the perfect excuse for visiting the village, but then she decided she might as well tell Katsuko the truth. "I . . ." she started, head facing the ground. "I left my village, and I was hoping I could find a home in another one . . . "

"Oh. I know lots of people in this village. I'm sure that they would welcome you and I could help you build a house here if you want. There a other people here that would help. If you want, that is." Katsuko waited for her reply.

Mirany's face lit up and she looked up at him. "You mean it? That would be wonderful!"

"Yeah. For the night you can stay at my place if you want and tomorrow I can ask about the house." Katsuko smiled and laughed.

"Your welcome! I'll show you my house. I live by myself, but I have a guest bedroom. It might be a little dusty but it'll do."

"Alright," she said, following as Katsuko led. "Thanks again," she said quietly, looking down. "I know this must be trouble for you," she said with her eyes cast down, "but I really appreciate it."

"No it's not. Don't worry about it. It's rare that a visitor comes to this village. The last visitor came about 2 years back but moved away rather quickly. I guess he heard all the rumors going around...ah...never mind...You don't need to hear about that." Katsuko stopped walking in front of a 2-story-tall, but still small, log cabin. "Well, here we are." Katsuko opened the door to reveal a small living room. "Make yourself at home."

"Rumors . . . ?" Mirany said, walking into a cozy living room that wasn't too small or too big. As the first rays of light rose from the sun on the horizon, the smell of cooking meat wafted inside the log cabin and Mirany's stomach growled. She realized she hadn't eaten in a few days, and then she yawned, realizing that sleep hadn't come to her easily in the forest. She immediately blushed at her ill manners and looked at the ground.

"Are you hungry? I'm in the middle of making beef stew if you want any." Katsuko heard Mirany's stomach growl and laughed. "You must be hungry and after you eat I'll show you to the guest room."

"Ummm . . . "Mirany said, still embarassed, "okay." As she followed him into the kitchen, the scent became stronger and she grew hungrier.

"Sure," Mirany said, hesitantly, having second thoughts on whether or not she should sleep in this strangers house. But she ended up following him out of the kitchen, because she felt she could trust him for some reason. And if something were to happen, she would have her katana to use as self-defense, though she wasn't very skilled with a katana.

Katsuko walked into a living room with a stair case in it and he walked up it and went into the second door on the left. "Here it is. You can unpack your things then come down." Katsuko left the room and went downstairs to check on the stew.
